LASER SKIN REJUVENATION treatment - Bentleigh, MELBOURNE
Laser skin rejuvenation
In Australia, we’re lucky to have plenty of sunshine that enables us to spend lots of time outdoors. But being in the sun can take its toll over time, resulting in blotchy, sun-damaged skin and fine wrinkles. Over-exposure to sunlight destroys skin cells, slowing down the growth of new skin and the production of collagen. This causes thinning of the skin, resulting in coarse skin texture, wrinkling and irregular pigmentation.
Variable pulsed light (VPL) laser skin rejuvenation treatments from Medix Skincare & Laser Clinic can help to reduce the appearance of thread veins, sun spots and broken capillaries, reduce pore size, and work wonders for redness and rosacea. Similar to IPL skin rejuvenation, VPL laser rejuvenates the skin by encouraging collagen production, sometimes known as collagen remodelling. Unlike other kinds of laser skin resurfacing treatments, which can cause scarring, VPL laser rejuvenation is safe and non-invasive, and acts by inducing a healing response which can improve the appearance of problematic skin conditions without damaging the skin.
What is VPL laser skin rejuvenation?
At Medix Skincare & Laser Clinic, we use the latest UltraPlus VPL system that’s designed so that each light pulse consists of a sequence of rapid shorter pulses. These variable laser pulses ensure controlled absorption of light by the skin while minimising heating of the surrounding tissue. This stimulates the skin to go into “repair mode” whereby the increase in blood flow to the region brings in fresh supplies of oxygen and nutrients to the cells and stimulates the production of collagen. VPL laser skin rejuvenation in Melbourne is excellent for the face and neck, plus it can also be used on the chest and hands.
Treating fine lines and wrinkles
For visible improvement of fine lines and wrinkles, you can’t beat VPL laser skin resurfacing. The longer wavelengths in the VPL laser light penetrate deeply to stimulate the underlying cells to produce extra collagen. The collagen moves to the skin’s surface, leading to a tightening of the skin, refinement of pores, and a reduction of fine lines to improve the tone and texture of your skin.
Treating cherry spots and spider veins
Cherry spots and spider veins can make the skin appear blotchy. During an UltraPlus VPL™ laser skin rejuvenation treatment, variable pulsed light energy is absorbed by these tiny veins, which breaks down the vessel walls. The breakdown products are naturally washed away by the body’s own cleansing system.
Dilation of capillaries just below the skin surface can result in the condition known as rosacea, which is characterised by red patches and spots on the face. Our VPL laser rejuvenation treatments cause vessel walls to heat up and later collapse. The tissue waste products are then naturally cleared by the body’s own cleansing system.
What happens during VPL laser rejuvenation?
The treated area is first cleared of make-up and hairs. A cooling gel is then applied in order to provide the required optical coupling and to maintain cooling on the skin being treated. The VPL laser hand piece is passed over the skin of the targeted area with no pressure. During the laser skin resurfacing treatment, a bright light is released, which travels through the skin and heats the dermal tissues without disruption or removal of the outer epidermal layers of the skin. Depending on your skin sensitivity, you may experience a slight stinging sensation in the area treated during the procedure, but there is far less discomfort than with IPL facial rejuvenation. Our skin rejuvenation in Melbourne usually takes between 30 to 40 minutes.
How many treatments are recommended?
A course of about four to six treatments is recommended, spaced at least 5 weeks apart. For the best result, you can combine VPL laser skin rejuvenation with other treatments at our skin rejuvenation clinic such as microdermabrasion and hydraFacial at two weeks intervals.
What should I do before and after laser skin rejuvenation?
- Avoid direct sun exposure, spray tanning or sun beds for 6 weeks before and after the treatment. If you will be exposed to the sun, a high SPF sunscreen should be worn.
- Avoid waxing, peeling or any kind of skin resurfacing for 2 to 3 weeks before and after treatment.
- Don’t do any heavy or sweaty workouts within 24 hours of the treatment.
- Don’t apply any make-up to the area until swelling and discomfort are resolved.
- Don’t have hot shower for 24 hours.
- Treated areas should be cared for by gentle washing with soap and water without scrubbing or rubbing.
- Don’t scratch the treated area, as it could cause scarring.
Are there any side effects of VPL laser skin rejuvenation?
Redness of the skin is to be expected. Immediately following your laser rejuvenation treatment, you may feel a little sunburnt and the treated area may be red for a few hours. Clients with darker skins may notice the skin is darker after the treatment. This will gradually lighten over a period of about two weeks. Some clients may experience swelling, but this goes away within a few days.
A cool compress immediately after the laser skin resurfacing treatment will relieve any swelling and minimise the burnt feeling. Applying a cooling gel such as aloe vera or tea tree can help, but don’t use any anti-inflammatory products, as these could interfere with the treatment. Taking antioxidants and vitamins A, C and E can also be helpful.
