Laser / LED teeth whitening - Bentleigh, melbourne

Your smile is important. It’s one of the first things people notice when they meet you, and a brighter, whiter smile can help you feel better about yourself and leave a lasting impression. If your teeth have become stained or discoloured, a simple, safe and effective teeth whitening treatment at Medix Skincare & Laser Clinic can rejuvenate your smile and increase your confidence, both personally and professionally. We offer LED / laser teeth whitening in Melbourne that takes less than an hour, with results able to be seen instantly.

What causes discoloured teeth?

There are many different reasons why people may require whitening smile solutions in Melbourne. Teeth can discolour due to ageing, coffee, tea, red wine, tobacco, certain types of medication, excessive amounts of Fluoride, and the consumption of Tetracycline as a child. All of these can contribute to your teeth not looking as white and bright as they should.

What is LED teeth whitening?

Laser / LED teeth whitening is one of the newest and fastest methods available for teeth whitening. Medix Skincare & Laser Clinic is proud to offer this advanced treatment, which involves using a beam of special visible light and applying bleaching agents like Hydrogen peroxide or Carbamide peroxide gel on the tooth enamel. When you get your teeth whitened, Hydrogen peroxide is what actually whitens them. Even if you are using Carbamide peroxide, it must first break down into Hydrogen peroxide in order to whiten your teeth. Hydrogen peroxide works much better than Carbamide peroxide.

What happens during the treatment?

Our professional tooth whitening in Melbourne involves applying specially formulated whitening gel on the tooth enamel. Using an LED lamp emitting cold blue light with a wavelength of around 465 nanometers activates the gel. The structure of the tooth is not changed; only the tooth is made lighter and whiter.

Hydrogen peroxide solutions can remove most common stains (red wine, coffee, tea, tobacco, etc). However, other types of stains, such as those caused by antibiotics or discolouration at birth, are difficult to whiten. The result will vary depending on a multitude of factors, such as how well the person’s enamel reacts to peroxide and the number of treatments performed. It also depends on the kind of gel used (Carbamide peroxide or Hydrogen peroxide) and the concentration of the whitening gel. It’s important to note that LED / laser teeth whitening will only whiten natural teeth. Artificial dental crowns, bonding, caps, veneers, bridges or composite fillings do not respond to bleaching.

Most people will get impressive results, while a few will get less dramatic results. Some people’s teeth cannot really be whitened at all, such as those that were stained by antibiotics like Tetracycline or Fluorosis. To complement your in-chair professional teeth whitening treatment, you may be provided with an at-home kit to enhance your results even further and extend the longevity of your new whiter smile.

How long will my teeth stay white?

Teeth whitening results can last for more than a year depending on how your teeth are treated afterward. People who don’t smoke and have good dental health habits see little to no change in the whitening effect for up to one year after our Melbourne teeth whitening treatment. By following some simple post whitening care instructions, your teeth will always be lighter than they were before. To keep your teeth looking their best, we recommend maintenance treatments every 4-6 months.

How many laser teeth whitening treatments are recommended?

Depending on the shade of your teeth and the shade you wish to achieve, the gel may be reapplied two or three times during your appointment, with each session lasting approximately 15 minutes. It is important for you to understand that every individual’s teeth respond differently to bleaching and whitening products. Some people will see dramatic results after laser / LED tooth whitening in a short time, while others will see little results or need lengthier treatment to achieve the desired result. To maintain the result, we recommend professional teeth whitening 2 to 3 times a year.

What should I do before and after the teeth whitening treatment?

Since we cannot predict the effectiveness of the whitening agent, if restorations are planned for the anterior (front) part of your mouth, it’s advisable to accomplish the whitening first to see what degree of shade is achieved, and then match the new restorations to the whitened teeth. You will need to plan to wait two to three weeks after bleaching before starting these restorative procedures.

Are there any side effects?

Some people may experience sensitivity during and after our Melbourne teeth whitening procedure. This varies from person to person depending on the condition of the teeth. Reasons for sensitivity can include fine cracks in the teeth, grinding, and toothbrush abrasion (enamel wear). Most people only have mild sensitivity for a maximum of 10 hours, but this can last up to 48 hours for others.
