    Blood circulation and lymphatic system

Blood vessels, lymph vessels, and heart constitute the circulatory system of the body. This system consists of a network of tubes and channels that connect to all parts of the body. The circulatory system basically passes nutrients, oxygenated blood, and fluids to all organs and tissues, also taking toxins away from various body parts. Blood circulation (known as cardiovascular circulation) operates in an enclosed system and heart is its central organ that monitors the transmission of blood and vital nutrients to and from all parts of the body. The circulation of blood throughout the body is proficiently facilitated by blood vessels and this system cannot be interrupted. Unlike blood circulation lymphatic systems , doesn’t have a central pump and works in an open pathway. In the real sense, it is appropriate to describe the lymph network merely as a “flow” instead of “circulation” because the lymphatic system is interposed by lymph nodes. Lymph fluid movement through our body depends on our muscles contraction and our physical activity. Deep breathing is also an essential way to enhance the flow of our lymph fluid.

    Lymphatic system functions

    • Lymphatic system is responsible for maintenance of blood and tissue volume through our body. It drains excess fluid along with waste products from tissue and carries them to lymph nodes (lymphatic system filtration) where the lymph is filtered from all toxins before it being returned into the bloodstream. Malfunction of lymphatic circulation causes accumulation of lymph fluid and leads to swelling and oedema.
    • It plays a significant role in our immune system and is our front line of defence in fighting infections. It delivers lymph fluid which contains white blood cells (infection-fighting cells) to all nooks and crannies of our body tissues and protects them against bacteria and virus invasion. Poor lymphatic drainage could result in an increase in the risk of infection and likely diseases.
    • Lymphatic system also absorbs fatty acids, triglycerides and all wastes from fat digestion and transfers fatty acids to the blood stream where it carried to the liver to be filtered.

Causes of poor circulation and how to boost lymph flow

Timely functioning of the circulatory system is inevitable because blood and other vital nutrients need to free-flow in order to enhance the productivity of body organs and tissues. Also, prolonged accommodation of waste products in the body is a big risk to the overall health of humans. Some of the root causes of poor circulation are: Smoking and alcohol consumption: You will be surprised to hear that smoking and high consumption of alcohol are not only harmful to your lungs and liver they also hinder effective circulation of your body fluids that can affect the overall body function. So it’s important to reduce cigarette smoking and alcohol consumption. Junk foods and processed foods: As we all know junk foods usually are processed and contain large amounts of sugar and carbohydrates as well as unhealthy fats, and salt (sodium). These foods are often high in calories with minimal nutritional value. When you eat junk foods in excess it can result in poor nutrition, poor health, and obesity. Having good quality nutrients rich in antioxidants such as broccoli, cabbage, cauliflower, kale, and Soybean help your body to combat free radicals and boost your body’s natural detox mechanism. Water intake is also very important as it helps your lymph flow freely within your body so make sure you drink 8 glasses of water daily. Lack of exercise and physical activity: When you go weeks without swimming, jogging, or any physical exercise, vital body fluids may not flow well which leads to accumulated toxins within the body. Exercises generally boost circulation to all body organs and tissues. Aerobic exercises can help manage poor lymphatic circulation. As intense exercises make you sweat and encourage your liver and lungs activity, it stimulates your body’s detoxifying system to get rid of waste products. Try to include regular exercise in your daily routine. You can consider riding bike or trek from home to work every day, after all, you save money in the process.

Signs and symptoms of poor circulation

It is likely you’re suffering from poor circulation if you notice any of these signs in your body.
    • Muscle cramps
    • Cold feet, hands, fingers, and toes
    • Blotches
    • Redness of the skin
    • Swelling and fluid retention in fingers and toes
    • Aching
    • Heaviness in affected parts

Pаrtісulаrlу with іn-оffісе teeth whіtеnіng procedures, іt іѕ important tо соnѕult your therapist on the еxресtеd ѕhаdе rеѕult, and tо keep еxресtаtіоnѕ rеаlіѕtіс. Achieving a smile that celebrities аttаіnеd thrоugh vеnееrѕ іѕ usually іmроѕѕіblе utіlіzіng ѕоlеlу tееth whіtеnіng services. Most оffісеѕ use a ѕhаdе guіdе with 16 shades оf common teeth colour tо іndісаtе where a person begins in tооth ѕhаdе, and thеn explains where a реrѕоn can еxресt to еnd with teeth whitening trеаtmеnt. Before and after Teeth Whitening

    • Kеер еxресtаtіоnѕ realistic: you wіll ѕее improvement, but how muсh dереndѕ on уоur tееth enamel response lеѕѕ thаn what tееth whіtеnіng procedure уоu сhоoѕe. Consider thе shade guіdе аnd undеrѕtаnd where, аt best, уоu will end uр. Alѕо, teeth may continue tо whіtеn for uр tо 24 hоurѕ аftеr аn іn-оffісе trеаtmеnt, but wіll ѕеttlе within a week to thе actual ѕhаdе асhіеvеd by thе treatment.
    • If уоu hаvе аnу kind оf fillings, porcelain veneers оr crowns on your tееth, it іѕ сruсіаl thаt уоu rеmеmbеr that man-made restorations ѕuсh as thеѕе WILL NOT BLEACH and you need to understand thаt this particular tееth may rеmаіn a dіffеrеnt colour untіl your teeth rеturn bасk to thеіr оrіgіnаl shade оvеr time. If you plan to get any restoration for anterior (front) part of your mouth, it’s better to have a tееth whіtеnіng treatment first, and then match the colour of your rеѕtоrаtіоn with the new shade you achieved.
    • Recessed gumѕ will often show the уеllоwіѕh roots. Tееth whіtеnіng dоеѕ not ѕееm to be еffесtіvе оn іmрrоvіng this area, аnd you may end uр wіth whіtеr tееth thаt mаkе the rооt аrеа’ѕ уеllоwnеѕѕ mоrе visible than bеfоrе tееth whіtеnіng.
    • After tееth whitening, аll dark-colored fооd аnd ѕtаіnіng fооdѕ/drіnkѕ ѕhоuld be аvоіdеd fоr uр to 48 hоurѕ. Duе tо thе blеасhіng process, your tееth will bе lіkе ѕроngеѕ, absorbing аnу and all colours. Thіѕ includes uѕіng соlоrеd tооthраѕtеѕ, so bе sure to uѕе a whіtе tооthраѕtе аt lеаѕt fоr 48 hоurѕ.
    • Prеgnаnt or breastfeeding women аrе аdvіѕеd not to have teeth whitening аѕ thе ѕіdе effects оf ѕwаllоwіng blеасhing agents during the treatment.

  • HydraFacial, Best Way to Treat Acne Scars

HydraFacial, Best Way to Treat Acne Scars

A single pimple on your face is far easier to manage as compared to acne breakouts.  Acne is a skin condition that is not easy to treat. It may cause inflammation and leave scars on your face if left untreated. It is really important to get professional assistance and treat acne as soon as they appear to prevent them from getting worse. A severe acne breakout can negatively affect people’s emotional and social life. Remove scar One of the common myths about acne is that you have to let it run its course. However, that is definitely not the best way to get rid of them. In fact, not treating acne at the right time may result in dark spots and permanent scars. There are a number of treatment options available to get rid of acne and acne scars. It not only helps to improve your physical appearance but also boosts your self-esteem and confidence.

    Why HydraFacial treatment?

One of the best ways to do away with acne is to get a HydraFacial treatment. This form of treatment involves a process that helps resurface the skin. The process involves cleansing and exfoliating, peeling and hydrating the skin, while extracting impurities and unclogs pores. HydraFacial is known to provide instant results in the form of radiant and healthy skin and there is no downtime involved. In addition, there are no side effects or any sort of discomfort associated with getting it done. It’s a medical grade treatment for all skin types that polishes the skin and gives it a refined and clean look.

    Is this treatment for me?

HydraFacial treatment is suitable for all skin types, including dry, oily and combination- skin types. People with sensitive skin can easily tolerate this form of treatment without any discomfort or an allergic reaction. Based on the type of your skin, the physician or skin care professional may choose to use a specific type of serum or may even decide to customize the HydraFacial treatment to match your unique skin condition. In case of any doubt, you may ask the skin care professional to conduct a skin evaluation or sensitivity tests before proceeding with the treatment.

How long does HydraFacial treatment take?

HydraFacial is considered to be an effective, safe and fast method of making skin acne-free. For those opting to take this form of treatment, the entire procedure can be as fast as 30 minutes. However, it may take a little longer, depending on your skin condition especially for those who have problematic skin. Many describe the experience of getting this treatment as being painted with a soft brush and the best thing about this procedure is that there is no pain and downtime involved. Clients can wear makeup straight away and get ready to start their daily routine.

How many times should I take the treatments to see results?

Skin professional’s advice to get a series of HydraFacial treatments on a monthly basis. Maintenance treatments then may be required for the best results and to get rid of acne for a longer period of time. Often, four treatments are scheduled every second week. After a batch of four treatments, a frequency of one session per month is prescribed to keep the skin clean and maintain the results. Many people report seeing results just after one session, which may last between 5 to 7 days. The effect may even last for more than a week for some individuals.

What should I do after the HydraFacial treatment?

After HydraFacial treatment, it’s better not to cleanse the skin shortly after the treatment to get more benefits of the serums and active ingredients.  However, you can start your regular skin regimen the same night. Any tightness, swelling or redness will go away within 24 hours. Notify your skin professional in case it persists for more than a day. HydraFacial like other facials makes your skin more sensitive to sun exposure so always wear a sunscreen after the treatment to avoid hyper-pigmentation. Avoid using retinoid or retinol for three days before and after your HydraFacial treatment to reduce the skin sensitivity. In case of any doubts, concerns or an allergic reaction, contact your skin professional immediately.

    Conclusion

HydraFacial is a non-invasive procedure that combines cleansing, exfoliation, and peeling, extraction of impurities, hydration and antioxidant protection in just one treatment. The technique effectively cleanses and exfoliates dead skin and promotes a healthy and glowing skin without any pain or discomfort. Elham Clinic manager Contact Us

  • Heard about Microdermabrasion, It Helps Remove Acne Scars

Heard about Microdermabrasion, It Helps Remove Acne Scars

Every day, your skin gets affected by environmental components like pollution, sunrays and other harmful particles. Prolonged effect of all these can lead to acne scars, age spots, unwanted pigmentation, crow’s feet etc. In today’s world where everyone’s trying to appear at his/her best, one of the most asked questions is – how to remove acne scars without undergoing an invasive treatment? Well, the answer is microdermabrasion, which is a skin resurfacing procedure that removes acne scars, in addition to rejuvenating the skin. With the help of a mechanical exfoliation, it buffs away the exterior layer of skin. This mild facial treatment is ideal for clients with comparatively minor skin imperfections or conditions. Microdermabrasion treatments can significantly lower or completely remove light acne scars.

Microdermabrasion removes the outer-most layer of dry, dead skin cells

smooth skin Microdermabrasion is one of the most commonly used cosmetic procedures in today’s skin care field. What’s more, it can be tailor-made to suit your skin type, sensitivity and texture. A diamond tip or  microcrystal is used to eliminate the surface layer of dry and dead skin cells and uncover the healthier-looking, younger skin. Microdermabrasion specially treats –
    • Hyperpigmentation
    • Enlarged pores
    • Blackheads and whiteheads
    • Non-inflammatory mild acne scarring
    • Superficial lines and wrinkles
    • Blemished and dull skin
    • Sun damaged skin
    • Scar revision
    • Stretch marks

    The Different Types of Microdermabrasion

Professional microdermabrasion treatments are available in two different types – Crystal Microdermabrasion and Diamond Microdermabrasion. Crystal microdermabrasion: It’s a traditional form of microdermabrasion system that involves using of tiny crystals such as Aluminum oxide and Sodium bicarbonate crystals to remove scar tissues and dead skin cells from epidermies. Diamond microdermabrasion: Diamond microdermabrasion is one of the most common treatment in cosmetic industry. A detachable diamond based tip is used to gently scrape away the scar tissue and dead skin cells and promote growth of new skin cells. Diamond microdermabrasion is gentler and safer than the crystal one as it doesn’t involve any crystal powder that may get to the client’s eyes, nose and mouth. A suction system is used in both microdermabrasion treatments to remove dead skin cells and cleans the pores from inside out. Home based microdermabrasion treatments are more affordable but they are less effective than professional microdermabrasion treatments and prolonged use of home-based kits may provide noticeable results.

  • Brazilian Laser Hair Removal Benefits, Side Effects, and Cost

Brazilian Laser Hair Removal Benefits, Side Effects, and Cost

    and

[row] [col span=”1/1″] Laser hair removal is a safe, fast and effective medical grade procedure for reducing unwanted hair permanently from almost all part of the body. It has been approved as “permanent hair reduction” in the United States by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) since 1997. The efficacy and safety of laser hair removal is now generally accepted in dermatology communities and is widely practiced in clinics all around the world.

How does laser hair removal work?

Laser hair removal is a treatment utilising the concept of “photothermolysis” in which a specific wavelength of light is emitted to the skin tissue and after being absorbed by melanin (the pigment that gives colour to our hair and skin) in the hair root, is transformed to heat. The heat then destroys the hair follicle, preventing the follicle from producing further hair growth. Since the laser can only target  hair that is in its active growth cycle, a course of 8-10 sessions are required to get the best results. Treatment intervals could vary from 4-8 weeks apart and depends on the area being treated.

Who can get Brazilian laser hair removal?

It’s suitable for almost all skin types and hair colours. Putting it in simple terms, as long as your hair has enough colour to absorb the light, you can get laser hair removal. People who have fair skin and dark hair are the best candidates and will get the best results, since laser doesn’t work on blond, red, grey and white hair. The results on fine hair may also not be as good as those on thick hair. The darker and thicker the hair, the better the result will be. Brazilian laser hair removal is not just for females – men can also get laser hair removal on any part of their body. Laser hair removal is hygienic, effective and yields permanent results.

Benefits of Brazilian laser hair removal

Laser Hair Removal 4 Laser hair removal has been the most popular hair removal method in last decade due to its speed and efficacy. It gives permanent hair reduction results of up to 70% without causing any damage to your skin and surrounding tissue. To compare with other permanent hair removal method such as electrolysis, laser hair removal is less painful, much faster and more cost effective and has fewer side effects. Skin irritation and ingrown hair are common side effects of temporary hair removal such as waxing, plucking, shaving and depilatory creams, on the other hand Brazilian laser hair removal not only is the best solution for ingrown hair but it also does not irritate the skin. In addition, it’s more time and cost effective due to its efficacy and permanent results. You can also experience clean and hairless skin during your treatment session intervals as you don’t need to wait for the hair to grow back to get your next appointment and can shave whenever you want.

Brazilian laser hair removal side effects

Laser hair removal is a safe treatment for almost all skin types and no down time is required. It’s a walk-in walk-out treatment and you can resume your everyday activity immediately afterward. Temporary itching, redness, and swelling around the treatment area or swelling of the hair follicles (follicular edema) are all quite normal after Brazilian hair removal. Applying cool compresses and an aloe-vera gel may relieve the side effects. If you have darker skin, you may experience pigment changes such as hyper-pigmentation or hypo-pigmentation on the treated area which may last for a few weeks or so.

Is Brazilian laser hair removal painful?

Laser Hair Removal 3 You may expect to feel minimal pain during your treatment. The degree of discomfort depends on your skin and hair colour and also the treatment area. Laser hair removal might be more painful for people with darker skin because they have darker hair and more pigments in their skin which leads to light absorption at a higher level. For those who have more sensitive skin, we apply an anaesthetic cream to numb the area, especially on the more sensitive areas, to reduce the discomfort.

Thinking about getting Brazilian laser hair removal?

If you are looking for a permanent result with fewer side effects and want to enjoy smooth skin everyday with no ingrown hairs, the laser hair removal treatment is the best option for you, as with only 8 to 10 sessions it will permanently inhibit your hair growth and after a course of treatments, you will only need to get maintenance treatments once or twice a year for those few stubborn hairs that remain.

What is a full Brazilian laser hair removal?

Full Brazilian hair removal, also known as Hollywood, includes removing all hair from the pubic area (front and back). Some women like to leave a triangle or a line in the front which is all possible to do with laser hair removal treatment.

    Laser hair removal cost

Laser hair removal prices vary based on the size of the area to be treated, the quality of the machine used and also the location of the clinic you choose to go to. Brazilian laser hair removal cost could be from $100-$250 per session. You can check all the details regarding the cost of your laser hair removal with us at: <

What are the Causes & How to Get Rid of Hyper-pigmentation

    [row]

    [col span=”1/1″]

Hyper-pigmentation is characterised by dark spots or dark patches on the skin. It is relatively common and usually harmless, but for cosmetic reasons, it is undesirable for those who have it. Hyper-pigmentation has different types. Age spots, liver spots, freckles, sun spots and mask of pregnancy or melasma are all types of hyper-pigmentation.

    sun exposure, pigmentation, skin cancer
    sun exposure, pigmentation, skin cancer

    Types of hyper-pigmentation

    Sun-spots and age-spots
This type of skin discolouration medically called lentigines, which may refer to liver spots as well. These blemishes are associated with aging and too much sun exposure. Sunspots result from the increased production of melanin as a consequence of prolonged ultraviolet light exposure over the years. UV rays accelerate melanin production and are the reason why we get a tan when we bask in the sun for a longer period of time. The most common areas affected are the face, neck, upper chest, arms and hands. Besides UV rays, simply getting old regardless of UV exposure can lead to an increase in melanin production and cause hyper-pigmentation.

    Freckles
Freckles medically called ephelides, they are more common in people with fair skin. Freckles are a result of the overproduction of melanin by melanocyte cells. They may vary in colour from reddish, yellow, tan, light brown to dark brown or black. They may become darker and more visible during the summer months and directly after exposure to the sun. Freckles are a response by the skin’s protective measure against the harmful effects of ultra violet light. Freckles are predominantly seen on sun-exposed areas and will fade or become lighter during winter months or when the skin is protected from UV radiation.

    Melasma
It is a skin condition seen in women aged between 20-50, related to both hormonal changes (in hormones such as oestrogen and progesterone) and sun exposure. Melasma is more common during pregnancy, menopause, and while using oral contraceptive pills. The skin darkens in patches of tan to brown colour, primarily on sun-exposed areas such as the face, neck and arms. People with olive and darker skin such as those of Indian, Asian, and Middle-Eastern heritage are more likely to get melasma. Direct sun exposure without sunscreen can trigger melasma and cause dramatic changes in skin pigmentation.

What are the causes of Hyperpigmentation?

Overproduction of melanin, the pigment that gives our skin its natural colour is the main cause of hyper-pigmentation. Also, abnormal size, number and distribution of the melanocytes (melanin producing cells) in skin layers can lead to hyper-pigmentation.
This excess production of pigment is triggered by a variety of factors. Although the main one links back to sun exposure, hormonal imbalances, ageing, skin injuries or skin inflammation and genetic predispositions, as well as some medication can also cause hyper-pigmentation of the skin.

    Sun Exposure
Sun exposure is the leading cause of hyperpigmentation, as sunlight is what triggers the production of melanin in the first place. Melanin acts as your skin’s natural sunscreen by protecting you from harmful UV rays, which is why your skin tans in the sun. Excessive sun exposure can disrupt the normal process of melanin production and cause hyper-pigmentation.

    sun exposure, pigmentation
    sun exposure, pigmentation

    Hormonal influences
This factor is the main cause of a particular kind of hyperpigmentation known as melasma or chloasma and is particularly common in women during or after pregnancy. The production of the female sex hormone estrogen is increased during pregnancy, which may stimulate the overproduction of melanin by melanocytes while the skin is exposed to sunlight.
Taking birth control pills may also cause the development of hyperpigmentation because they cause hormonal changes similar to those that occur during pregnancy.

    Medications
Medications are a frequent cause of sudden skin pigmentation in sun-exposed areas. Medications that can cause skin pigmentation include anti-malarial medications, anti-seizure medications, and minocycline. Ingestion of metal preparations that contain mercury, silver, lead or gold can also contribute to hyperpigmentation.

    Skin injuries or inflammation
Irritation or injury to the skin such as burns, cuts, abrasions and even common pimples may cause skin inflammation. Skin inflammation stimulates the pigment cells (melanocytes) to produce more pigment in both upper and lower layers of the skin resulting in a mark being left on the skin surface that is darker than the rest of the skin. This type of skin discolouration is known as post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation. This is a condition that usually clears with time, although it can sometimes last for months to even years.

    Ageing
As people age, a discolouration of the skin is normal as a result of genetic programming and structural changes in the cells. With ageing, the ability of DNA damage to repair itself becomes imbalanced and may lead to an irregular distribution of melanocytes as well as an increase or decrease in melanin production. A decrease in melanin production appears as white or discoloured spots on the skin and is known as hypopigmentation.
Overproduction of melanin can form dark spots on the skin, known as hyperpigmentation and it can be seen on any part of the body that has been exposed to the sun for a long period of time.

How to remove unwanted skin pigmentation?

    Medical peel
This treatment involves applying peeling agents such as glycolic acid or alpha hydroxy acid on the area in order to remove dead skin cells and sun damaged spots. During the treatment, a chemical solution is applied to your skin to exfoliate and rejuvenate your skin. Based on your skin type, it may be combined with steam to increase the depth of penetration by the peeling agent.
Skin peel is ideal for all skin types with more consideration for dark skin.
Skin redness for a few hours and skin dryness and tightening for a few days are normal after having a peel. Depending on the percentage of the peel and duration of your treatment, you may experience mild to moderate flaking or peeling of the treated area for a few days as well. Although you will see improvement after each session, more treatments are required in order to remove deeper pigmentation.

    VPL Laser pigmentation removal
It is one of the most effective treatments that can remove skin pigmentation permanently. The light emitted to your skin breaks down the excess melanin in hyperpigmented areas and lightens the appearance of pigmented skin without damaging the surrounding tissue.
Since the light is strongly absorbed by the melanin in the epidermis, this treatment is only suitable for people with skin types 1-4 with no significant tan.
The intensity of the treatment is based on your skin type and the depth of the pigmentation, the mildest treatments work just on the skin’s epidermis (surface layer), while higher intensity and longer wavelength are used for deeper penetration.
Skin redness and swelling for a few hours are normal after any laser treatment. Pigmented area may become darker and develop a crust for a few days or so and then will gradually lighten or shed off.

    Microdermabrasion
Microdermabrasion is a non-invasive resurfacing treatment that can minimise freckles and pigmented spots by removing dead skin cells. The diamond coated head with a gentle vacuum is designed to exfoliate the top layer of your skin which results in the lightening of pigmentation such as age spots and sun spots. It’s suitable for all skin types and colour. While it can improve the appearance of skin discolouration, the results are usually modest, and milder hyperpigmentation conditions are better served by this procedure.
Skin redness for a few hours and skin dryness for a few days are possible side effects of microdermabrasion treatment.

    Products to treat skin Pigmentation
Vitamin A and C are two essential vitamins that you need to include in your everyday skincare routine if you are suffering from skin pigmentation or you are prone to get freckles.
Vitamin A increases your skin cells turnover and helps to speed up the skin cells growth to normal which in turn thickens the skin. It repairs ultra-violet damage to the skin such as sunspots and age spots, and improves the appearances of skin imperfections.
Vitamin C, like other antioxidants, increases the effectiveness of your sunscreens and boosts your skins defence against UV exposure. It has a lightening effect on your skin because it slows down the production of melanin (skin pigments), so it’s very helpful for those who want to lighten sunspots or are prone to freckles and facial pigmentation.
It also has an exfoliant property which improves the appearance of uneven skin tone such as melasma (pregnancy pigmentation), sunspots, age spots and post-acne marks.
Vitamins A, C and E are depleted by UV-A and UV-B radiation even on a cloudy or rainy day; however the effects are milder than on a sunny day so don’t forget to apply your sunscreen on the top to get the most benefits from your skincare products.

Please keep in mind that treatment modality is different for every individual. A combination of different treatments with topical creams may be required to get the best result, depending on your skin type and the type of your skin pigmentation. The earlier you receive the treatment the more effective your results will be.

At Medix Clinic, we offer a comprehensive range of skin and cosmetic treatments tailored to your needs. • What is a Blackhead or Whitehead & How to Get Rid of Them

What is a Blackhead or Whitehead & How to Get Rid of Them

    [row]

    [col span=”1/1″]

Blackhead or whitehead is a skin condition that occurs when combination of dead skin cells and sebum hardens and clog your skin pores. They are also known as comedones. Open comedones are called blackheads and closed comedones are called whiteheads.

    What causes facial blackheads?

In our hair follicles there are oil glands, called sebaceous gland. These glands produce oil or sebum which provide our hair and skin a way of nourishment and lubrication to naturally stop the hair and skin from drying out. When our sebaceous gland secretes sebum excessively, this can cause a build up, especially when the skin pores are fully or partially blocked by dead skin cells, or other substances, like dirt and make up.  The result can be seen as whitehead or blackhead.

With open comedones, exposure to air and pollution oxidizes the sebum contents and turns them black, leading to the appearance of facial blackheads.

Whiteheads and blackheads can form anywhere there is a hair follicle but they mostly occur in the oiliest areas of your face and body such as your nose, forehead, cheeks, chin and your back.

To prevent blackheads naturally, it’s very important to clean your skin with a proper cleanser and keep the oil ducts clear. Regular exfoliation may also lead to a decrease in sebum production or to dissolving the sebum in the duct and allowing it to drain into the skin rather than causing a blockage.

How to get rid of blackheads and whiteheads fast:

    Blackhead 1

    HydraFacial:
It is the pioneer treatment for blackhead removal in Melbourne, suitable for both men and women of all skin types and complexions. This is the only treatment which combines cleansing, exfoliation, peeling, extraction of blackheads and whiteheads, hydration and antioxidant protection, all in one treatment. This suction-based treatment provides a professional and painless extraction by vacuuming the accumulated oil inside the pores out, which helps to prevent the blockage of pores and helps control oil production. HydraFacial also removes dead skin cells and impurities from the skin surface, so no more keratin mixes with sebum and results in facial blackhead removal. It’s a walk in – walk out treatment with no downtime required.

    Medical peels
There are different types of skin peels such as lactic acid, glycolic acid and alpha hydroxy acid peels that can be used for facial blackhead removal. Type of the peel and duration of your treatment depend on your skin type and your skin concern. The treatment involves using a gentle yet effective chemical solution to exfoliate the outer top layer of the skin and clean the skin pores of all impurities and blackheads to reveal healthy and fresh skin. Due to the mild acids that are used in our skin peels, treatment can even be performed on delicate skin areas close to the mouth and eyes. A course of four to six treatments in total is recommended in order to receive the maximum benefits.

    Microdermabrasion
Microdermabrasion literally lifts whiteheads and blackheads out of your skin pores. A combination of skin exfoliation and slight suction cleanses the skin pores of all impurities and helps to smooth-textured skin, reducing scarring and decreasing pore size. It also encourages blood and lymph circulation in the treated area as well as the formation of new collagen and skin cells. The process is painless, and you will see visible results after just one treatment. A series of treatments may required for the best outcome.

Home remedies to prevent whiteheads and blackheads?

    Blackhead 2

    • Clean  your skin twice daily with a proper cleanser to dissolve skin surface impurities and prevent the blockage of your skin pores.
    • Remove your make up every night before going to bed. Sleeping with your makeup on could not only causes pimples, blackheads and milia, it may also cause premature aging.
    • Avoid using skin care products and makeup that are too heavy and too rich for your skin type.
    • Regular exfoliation with exfoliating gloves can inhibit the formation of blackheads and blemishes by keeping the skin pores free of blockages.
    • Make sure to wash your face and body after you shampoo or condition your hair as your hair conditioner could clog your skin pores.
    • Apply sunscreen every day and avoid direct sun exposure as much as you can.
    • Although there has not been a lot of research to prove the link between food and skin blemishes, it’s better to avoid fast foods and fried food because of their high sugar levels and fat content.

All skin imperfections such as pimples, blackheads and whiteheads are multi-factorial; skin conditions and many things in our daily life such as cosmetic products, pollution, climate change, sun exposure, skin care routine, even foods (specifically high-sugar foods and dairy products) can aggravate the symptoms and cause more pimples and blemishes to develop. Triggers may be different different for every individual so it’s very important to keep track of the things that affects your skin condition and try to avoid them.

  • How to Prevent Pimples

    What causes pimples?

The exact cause of pimples is still unclear and it seems that male hormones called androgens are a primary cause of pimples and acne.
Hormonal changes during puberty, menstruation and using or stopping the usage of contraceptive pills can stimulate the secretion of androgen and cause pimples to develop.
Researchers believe that both genetic and environmental factors contribute in developing pimples. In other words, people who have a history of acne and pimples in their families are more likely to get breakouts .

    How to prevent pimples?

➢ Having proper (oil free) products and correct skincare routine plays a big part in preventing and treating pimples.

➢ Incorporating an oil free moisturiser with vitamin A can effectively reduce skin inflammation and prevent the formation of new pimples.

➢ Although twice daily skin cleansing is necessary, too much cleansing can result in more oil production by the oil glands.

➢ Be careful when choosing your cosmetic products as heavy and greasy makeup can block the pores and aggravate your skin condition.

➢ Make sure to remove your make-up before going to bed. Sleeping with your makeup on could not only cause pimples and blackheads, it may also cause premature aging.

➢ Regular exfoliation with exfoliating gloves can inhibit the formation of blackheads and blemishes by keeping the skin pores free of blockages.

➢ Although there has not been a lot of research to prove the link between food and pimples, it’s better to avoid fast foods because of their high sugar levels and fat content.

It’s better to leave a pimple to heal on its own without popping because if you don’t squeeze it properly, the bacteria may splatter which may cause it to get inside other pores and cause more pimples to develop. Also, if you don’t extract the pimples correctly and completely, you may force the bacteria deeper inside the pores and aggravate the pimples which results in more swelling and infection, and increases the chance of scarring as well.
If you really want to extract a pimple it’s better to get help from a dermatologist or a well-trained therapist who knows how to pop it properly.

If you are going to pop it by yourself, it’s really important to do it in the correct way.

    How to squeeze a pimple?

    1. Don’t squeeze it too early. Your pimple is ready to be drained when it doesn’t look too red and inflamed and when it has developed a white head.

    2. Wash your hands thoroughly with warm water and soap or wear disposable gloves.

    3. A warm compress before squeezing prepares the blockage so it pops much more easily. Use a cotton pad that has been soaked in hot water and hold it on the pimple for a minute and repeat for a few times if needed.

    4. Use alcohol swap to sterilise the area and then pierce the pimple parallel to the skin with a sterilised needle and then rip the skin upward. This will cause no pain.

    5. Wrap a tissue around your index fingers, or use cotton pads. Place your fingers on the opposite sides of the pimple and gently squeeze the pimple from the sides not on the top. Squeeze or push for a second then move your fingers around and repeat to avoid too much pressure being applied from one area.

    6. Push carefully until the pus comes out from the pore completely. As soon as blood comes out when you apply more pressure, it’s time to Stop! If the pus doesn’t come out easily, the pimple is not ready to be popped. Stop!

    7. Sterilise the blemish with an alcohol swab or an anti-bacterial ointment to avoid any infection. The treated area should be cared for by gently washing it with your cleanser and water without scrubbing or rubbing for a few days until your skin heals completely.

How to get rid of pimples?

    Topical retinoids
Topical retinoids such as isotretinoin and tretinoin are used to treat more severe form of pimples known as acne. Isotretinoin increases skin shedding and regulates the cebaceause glands activity. It reduces pimples and acne breakouts by preventing dead skin cells from clogging the pores and helps fight the formation of acne scars.

    AHA creams and skin peels
AHA creams and Medical peels, specifically salicylic acid are very effective in treating skin inflammation and helps break down the pimples and normalises the sebaceous glands’ activity. It penetrates deeply inside the pores and kills the bacteria responsible for breakouts. Temporary skin redness and dryness are possible side effects.

    Laser/IPL/VPL treatments
Light source treatments such as laser, intense pulsed light or variable pulsed light are one of the most effective and safe treatment options for acne and breakouts. Emitting visible light in the range of 420-950 nm to the skin creates singlet oxygen that has antibacterial and anti-inflammatory effects which result in less pimples and less skin inflammation. The only side effect of laser treatment is skin redness for a short period.

Pimples and break-outs are multi-factorial; skin condition and many things in our daily life such as cosmetic products, stress, pollution, climate change, skincare routine, even foods (specifically high-sugar foods and dairy products) can aggravate the symptoms and cause more pimples to develop. Triggers may be different for every individual so it’s very important to keep track of the things that affect your skin condition.

    Stretch Mark Treatments and Results

Did you know that almost 90% of women gain stretch marks during their pregnancies?
Stretch marks seem almost unavoidable for the majority of women and a fair number of men as well. Partly it can be blamed on genetics, as some people develop stretch marks regardless of the precautions they take. Partly it is the fault of people themselves, as they eschew preventive methods or are ignorant as to what methods are available. We will go into detail on available preventive methods a little later in this article.

What are Stretch marks, and how do they occur?

Stretch marks are very common, and are formed when the skin is stretched as a consequence of underlying tissue expansion. Due to the skin’s inflammatory reaction, stretch marks can appear to be reddish or purple in colour when they first form. As the skin heals, the marks are replaced by scar tissue, resulting in a whitish or silvery colour.
Stretch marks appear due to tissue growth or rapid hormonal changes that are associated with puberty, pregnancy, or weight gain or loss. The odds of whether or not you will experience stretch marks increase if rapid tissue growth occurs in a short period of time. In simple word stretch marks are formed when the body grows faster than the elasticity of the skin allows for.

Who is most likely to experience Stretch marks?

Generally, stretch marks affect mostly women, but men can be affected as well. People of all ages, races, and life stages are subject to stretch marks.

➢ One of the most common causes of stretch marks is rapid weight gain in a short period of time. Stretch marks usually appear on any part of your body where extra fat is stored, such as your stomach, hips, or thighs. The size and the amount of stretch marks depend on the extent of weight gained and amount of time involved.

➢ It is common for teenagers both boys and girls to develop stretch marks during puberty. Pubescent girls may experience stretch marks on their breasts, thighs, hips, or even behind their knees. Similar to weight gain, the rapid growth of the body tissue is a simple explanation for the cause of these stretch marks.

➢ Another most common cause of stretch marks in women is pregnancy. You are highly likely to develop stretch marks around your stomach as your baby continues to grow. Multiple pregnancies can lead to the formation of new stretch marks but not all pregnancies produce stretch marks- this means that genetics play an important role in whether or not someone experiences stretch marks.

An athlete trying to gain muscle in a short period of time can experience stretch marks as well. Bodybuilders are prone to stretch marks on their shoulders from rapid muscle gain. This is the result of the muscle growing faster than the skin elasticity allows.

Are there treatments or products that can remove Stretch marks?

➢ Applying a body cream or oil rich in Vitamin E on areas where stretch marks can be expected, for example, around the belly during pregnancy, can minimise the chance of developing stretch marks.
    before they occur.

Skin needling is one of the most effective treatments for stretch marks. A topical numbing cream is applied to the surface of the skin. The skin is then needled or rolled to create thousands of tiny holes, increasing skin cell activity and enhancing collagen production as part of the healing process. The only side effect is a slight “sun-burnt” feeling, and the skin returns back to normal the following day. This treatment promotes smoother healthier skin and improves the appearance of old and new stretch marks.

Laser treatments and Intense pulsed light are popular methods for treating stretch marks. Laser and IPL treatments stimulate collagen and elastin production by increasing skin cells turnover. A course of 4-6 treatments can significantly improve skin firmness and elasticity, as well as minimising the look of stretch marks.

➢ Utilizing Radio frequency is one of the safest treatments for stretch marks. Radio currents are forced into deep skin layers, mildly heating the underlying skin tissue. The heat increases skin cell activity on and around the treatment area, which boosts collagen and elastin. The result is a firmer and smoother skin texture, and a reduction in the appearance of stretch marks. The best result can be seen after a course of 1 session per week for 10 weeks.

Applying topical retinoid or moisturizer with Vitamin A in conjunction with above treatments will give you a better result, especially for newly formed stretch marks. Studies show that new moms who applied retinoid cream 0.1% every day for three months improved their baby-bump related stretch marks by 20%.

Please keep in mind that treatment modality is different for every individual. A combination of different treatments with topical creams may be required to get the best result, depending on your skin type and the amount and severity of your stretch marks. The earlier you receive the treatment the more effective your results will be.
